Together We Will Work Towards Your Goals

Your psychotherapy is unique.  What works for one person might not for another.  Together we need to tailor a plan just for you.

That plan will depend on the personalities of the counselor and client as well as the particular problems you are experiencing.  There are many different methods we can use to deal with the problems you hope to address.  Effective psychotherapy requires an active effort on your part.  In order for the therapy to be most successful you will have to work on your own between our sessions, and together we will check progress and adapt as we need to.

Psychotherapy can have benefits and risks.  Since therapy often involves discussion about unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like anxiety, sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness.  On the other hand psychotherapy has also been scientifically proven to have benefits for people who go through it.  Therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress.  Please keep in mind that there are no guarantees of what you will experience.

Specialty Areas

You don't need a diagnosis to make therapy a productive option, and you don't need to fit into any of these categories to make me a good fit for you.  But if your life is impacted by any of these disorders know that I understand and embrace working with these sometimes very difficult issues:

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Conduct Disorders

  • Depressive Disorders

  • Dissociative Disorders

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Panic Disorder

  • Personality Disorders

  • Schizophrenia Spectrum

The initial session will involve an evaluation of your needs.  By the end of the evaluation I will be able to offer you an impression of what your treatment will include.  You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with me.

Therapy involves a commitment of time, money, and energy, so you should be very careful about the therapist you ultimately select.  If I feel that your needs and my abilities are not aligned I will work with you to find a more suitable therapist.  If you have questions about any procedures please discuss them with me whenever they arise.  If doubts arise or persist I will be happy to address them and to help you set up a meeting with another mental health professional if you desire.
